LA Gear mainly sells fashionable sneakers designed for women, and it continues to this day, although the brand’s recent re-launch has caused these product lines to no longer be valued (LA Gear completely discontinued the new men’s Catapult product line) .

What eventually became known as the Newport Sandal, was invented in 1999 by Martin Keen in Jamestown, Rhode Island. In 2003, the first Keen sandals and shoes were put into production and feature a protective black toe bumper. Keen initially found a niche market in sailing and other outdoor and water activities, and offer products for many outdoor activities as well as lifestyle shoes. It later expanded to a variety of styles, casual and cold-weather footwear, bags, and clothing, including safety work footwear, such as the Keen Utility Tacoma work boots.
Keen has been a fast-growing company since its inception. Footwear News named the company 2003's "Launch of the Year". In 2009, the company had estimated sales of $130 to $140 million, and for 2011, revenue had grown to approximately $240 million.
In reaction to the 2004 Asian tsunami, Keen joined the relief effort by pulling their $1M advertising budget and diverting it to disaster relief. This gesture turned into their long-term Hybrid.Care program, where they partner with organizations whose vision they share, including The Conservation Alliance, 1 KG More, Leave No Trace, and Big City Mountaineers. Keen Utility, through its non-profit partnerships within the Project Build program, has helped veterans, provided protective footwear for those in need, and supported conservation corps work across the country.
In early 2006, the company relocated its headquarters from Alameda, California to a restored five-story building in Portland, Oregon, located in the historic Pearl District. The company opened a plant in Portland in 2010 to begin manufacturing some footwear in the United States using materials sourced from around the world. Keen's footwear factory is less than five minutes from the Keen headquarters in downtown Portland, which is where their American Built collection is made. In 2012, Keen purchased the HQ Building in Portland's Pearl District for $10.8 million to serve as company headquarters and also host their retail store. They re-purposed almost all existing materials within the old building, and the renovation was completed with less than one dumpster of waste instead of the normal 20-25 if approached the typical way.

K-Swiss, Inc. is an American athletic shoes manufacturer brand based in downtown Los Angeles, California, and currently owned by Xtep.
K-Swiss was founded in 1966 in Los Angeles, California by two Swiss brothers, Art and Ernie Brunner. They became interested in tennis after immigrating to the United States. They imported the patent leather tennis shoes from the Swiss Kuenzli shoe manufacturer, re-naming their company K-Swiss (K is for Kalifornia).
In the 1990s, Steven Nichols boosted K-Swiss's marketing budget, and hired a number of key individuals from large companies, such as Procter and Gamble, and began a marketing blitz around the K-Swiss brand. Award-winning Creative Director Mindy Gale led her NY-based agency team in developing and producing K-Swiss advertising and publicity campaigns from 1997 through 2008. The "I Wear My K-Swiss" multi-media campaign ran for five consecutive years, targeting young urban consumers in print and on TV.
A re-branding campaign appealing to a wider modern female target, featuring Anna Kournikova rolled out in 2007. Advertising campaigns encouraged users to personalize the trademark stripes under the slogan "Put Your Spin on It." The brand includes their licensed highly successful color-changing K-Swiss Tongue Twisters starting in 2002, Stripe Shifters, and more recently their Band Em footwear styles.
K-Swiss purchased the majority stake of Australian brand Royal Elastics in 2001. In 2003, they acquired 100 percent ownership of the company; in 2008, it was sold to a Taiwanese businessman, Eric Ma, who then went bankrupt in 2014, and refused to pay the rest contracted money, but transferred the brand's ownership to his mother.
In January 2013, the company — which posted $195 million in losses between 2009 and 2012 — was sold to Korean firm E-Land World Limited for $170 million. The following May, E-Land named a new executive team to oversee the newly formed K-Swiss Inc., including Truman Kim as chairman and Larry Remington as president and CEO.
On June 1, 2015, K-Swiss acquired Supra Footwear.
In August 2019, E-Land Footwear USA Holdings Inc. and consequently K-Swiss was acquired by Xtep International Holdings Limited.
